MH&A Managing Partner Dr. Gary J. Margolis will give a keynote address on emerging trends in campus safety and higher education emergency management at the annual conference of the Kentucky Auxiliary Services Association (KASA) on Friday, May 21, 2010 in Georgetown, KY.  KASA is the professional association of university and college auxiliary services for institutions of higher education in the State of Kentucky (http://www.kasaky.org/).

The United States Secret Service, the US Department of Education, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly released its report on targeted violence at institutions of higher education. Entitled “Campus Attacks: Targeted Violence Affecting Institutions of Higher Education,” the report is the result of a collaborative effort between the three departments to understand the nature of violence affecting colleges and universities and identify ways to prevent future incidents.  MH&A Managing Partner Steven J. Healy served as an advisor for this important project.

The University of Florida has retained Margolis, Healy & Associates to closely monitor, review and provide recommendations to the University during its investigation of a recent police action shooting involving a graduate student.

The Board of Directors of HazingPrevention.Org has renamed its summer institute The Novak Institute for Hazing Prevention, honoring MH&A Associate Kimberly J. Novak. The institute, formerly known as the Interdisciplinary Institute for Hazing Intervention, educates an international audience on hazing intervention and prevention every summer.

Margolis, Healy and Associates will be holding the next Campus Threat Assessment Seminar on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts.  The seminar will be held at the Babson Executive Conference Center at Babson College.  For more information: http://www.campusthreatassessment.org

Dr. Margolis and Mr. Healy will present a workshop on “Conducting a Safety and Security Vulnerability Assessment for Community Colleges” at The Community College Conference on Legal Issues - February 1, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.  The workshop explains safety and security vulnerability assessments for community colleges by providing participants with a methodology and rationale for conducting an SSVA at their institution.  For more information: www.valenciacc.edu/communitycollegelaw/
